The Tree Saga and Gardening

Some of you may have heard about the big storm we had in Ottawa last week. It blew over one of the stages at Bluesfest. Tom and I were home safe and sound at the time watching the wind blow the trees. Chuck and I were inside looking across the street when I saw this branch snap and fall. Tom and my mum heard it outside and said it sounded pretty loud.

Later I went out to examine the damage more closely. It was a really big branch. That's a pretty big play structure it's hiding behind it. 

 A couple days ago I walked into our kitchen and looked out the window to see this. The City had been by to cut off the branch but had taken the whole top off. When Simone came home and noticed she let out some very high pitched, squeaky sounds of distress and anger.

Here's some of the wood that was cut. Judging but the hole in the bark it looks like the tree was diseased and will be coming down completely. 

However two new trees have already been planted near by. 

The rest of the wood. It will serve us well this winter. Allow many marshmallows to be roasted. mmm..

In other plant news. We got a habanero pepper plant so we can have a good supply of spiciness. Our first peppers are coming in. Yay!

 

I've also started growing so firecracker peppers that will be orange then red then purple. They're pretty spicy too. But they are very slow growers. 

 

Yesterday's bean haul from the garden. So tender and delicious.

  

A couple weeks ago Tom decided he wanted to try a recipe for a pasta sauce that called for 8 hours of simmering in many stages. Tom shortened it down to 6 hours and we spent the day in the kitchen waiting. It was very very good, just long.
