Last week Bluesfest started. Tom and I had a few shows we wanted to check out. This one was The Flaming Lips. I was really impressed by their use of technology and the show they put on. The semi circle screen showed a live feed from a camera above the microphone which gave an amazingly intimate feel as well as some surreal visual moments.
Simone also happened to be there with her friends, this is one of her photos.
Day 2 we went to see A Perfect Circle. It was pretty amazingly crowded.
Another show with some well thought out components.
I really liked how the light reflected off the chain-mail-like fabric.
Now on to art camp. Our first art project was illustrating the pages for a book in the style of Russian illustrators from the 20's. Using patterns to fill in areas as well as flat colour.

Next we bound them in their covers.
The girls did a great job binding and decorating their books.

I was so pleased with how well the books turned out. Our next project was looking at South American jugs and making vessels in that style. The beginnings of a koala pencil holder.

Our last project was looking at pointillism in both European art and Australian Indigenous art. The girls each picked animals for the center and after we studied some styles made their own paintings.
